Encuentro Milonguero April 24-26, 2026
ℹ️ About
History of Vancouver Milongueros
Vancouver’s connection to the Milonguero style began in 1997.
That year, I invited Daniela Arcuri and Armando Orzuza, stars of Tango Pasion, to our city. On their first night at the Gala Milonga, they dazzled us with their stage show pieces. The second night, in a smaller and more intimate venue, they told me:
“Tonight we will show you how we dance in a typical Buenos Aires milonga.”
What followed was a stunning display of close embrace — refined, skillful, and deeply connected social dancing.
The following year, I brought Susana Miller, and the Milonguero seed was firmly planted.
After my first trip to Buenos Aires around that time, I began teaching Milonguero style in Vancouver and continue to do so to this day. My music sets shifted to tandas and cortinas. Together with my partner, I introduced mirada and cabeceo. At first, there was some resistance, but these traditions soon became a natural part of our local tango culture.
Later, after getting married, I stepped back from tango for almost a decade — the same period when Encuentros began flourishing in other parts of the world. I waited patiently for one to happen here. In the end, it became my destiny to organize Vancouver’s first Encuentro Milonguero.
Vancouver today is a vibrant tango city, with milongas every night of the week.
If you can, extend your stay to enjoy Alicia Pons’ visit the week before and immerse yourself in a full tango week — dancing every night if you wish.
We are excited to welcome you to our beautiful city for this special gathering.
